The MedTech Conference: Partners for Innovation in Health Care, Dr. Scott Gottlieb

Scott Gottlieb, M.D., Commissioner of Food and Drugs, FDA

Dr. Scott Gottlieb was recently sworn in as the 23rd Commissioner of Food and Drugs and for most of us this will be our rst opportunity to hear from him in person since taking his new role at the FDA. Dr. Gottlieb is a physician, medical policy expert, and public health advocate who previously served as the FDA’s Deputy Commissioner for Medical and Scientific Affairs and before that, as a senior advisor to the FDA Commissioner.

He also worked on implementation of the Medicare drug benefit as a senior advisor to the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where he supported policy work on quality improvement and the agency’s coverage process, particularly as it related to new medical technologies.

Dr. Gottlieb will deliver remarks about the state of the FDA and how it interfaces with the industry and then be joined by AdvaMed’s President & CEO, Scott Whitaker, for an in–depth interview.

 

 

AdvaMed 2016: MedTech Innovator Finals  

MedTech Innovator is the medtech industry’s global competition and virtual accelerator. Its mission is to accelerate the development of transformative innovations that benefit patients and deliver improved value to the health care system. AdvaMed Accel, the division of AdvaMed dedicated to smaller company needs,has partnered with MedTech Innovator to improve the innovation ecosystem. AdvaMed 2016 will again host the MedTech Innovator competition finals. Twenty Semi-Finalists were selected from a field of nearly 500 early-stage companies to take part in a four-month virtual accelerator program. Four Finalists were selected to compete in a LIVE finals competition on the plenary stage at AdvaMed 2016.

AdvaMed 2014: Medtronic Co-Founder Earl Bakken Receives AdvaMed Lifetime Achievement Award

On October 8, 2014, the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) bestowed the second annual AdvaMed Lifetime Achievement Award to Medtronic co-founder Earl Elmer Bakken, creator of the first wearable, battery-operated external pacemaker.

AdvaMed’s Lifetime Achievement Award highlights the accomplishments of a pioneer in the medical technology sector whose contributions have had a significant impact on patients’ lives and the industry as an essential part of America’s economy. This year’s award recognizes Bakken’s achievements and unparalleled leadership in medical innovation, patient care and philanthropy.
