Buying for Value Globally: Can We Make it Work?
Overseas markets present many challenges, not the least of which is persuading government purchasers to implement value based concepts that are beneficial for all stakeholders and move away from price only comparisons that do not adequately account for value or innovation. This panel will examine some of the challenges present in select markets and some of the circumstances that lead to challenges occurring in the first place. It will also examine some of the mechanisms that could be proposed or implemented as solutions to facilitate better collaboration between industry and government and better utilize value based concepts in markets that may be less structured or mature.

Real World Evidence: What Does it Mean for Coverage and Payment?
Real World Evidence (RWE) is the latest terminology to describe evidence that supports new indications for medical technologies, substantiates long-term outcomes and effectiveness and justifies coverage and payment. Collecting and analyzing real world data can be difficult and challenging, particularly given the multiple data sources that are available and the implications of the use of RWE by a variety of stakeholders, from the FDA to payers, providers and patients. This multi-stakeholder panel will discuss the opportunities and challenges ahead in collecting and using RWEand the implications of its use.

Introducing Value into the Supply Chain
Value based purchasing (contracting) is a crucial element of the modern supply chain. Health care providers are reviewing all operating expenses from labor to supplies, with a focus on supporting an extremely efficient supply chain that utilizes/coordinates data (supply chain and clinical) in the product decision and use process. And, providers are also focused on determining that the products used in patient care really do deliver the value they are supposed to deliver. The panel will highlight the best practices currently in place and address how to approach the value based contracting process so that the goal of high-quality patient care can be provided for the best value.

Bridging the Gap Between FDA Approval and CMS and Private Payer Coverage
Increasingly, health care is focused on patient access to new and innovative medical products. Many medical technologies are receiving FDA approval with less long-term data. As a result, CMS and private payers are challenged to assess new medical technologies for coverage and payment with less available evidence regarding health outcomes, and with more data collection occurring through post-market studies or registries. While CMS has employed mechanisms such as FDA-CMS parallel review, or coverage with evidence development (CED) to allow for provisional coverage while additional data are collected, many private payers have not adopted such strategies. The panel will discuss ways to streamline and improve the process from FDA approval to CMS and private payer coverage and enable patient and provider access to new and innovative technologies.
